Serge Lutens Perfume Reviews: NO.1 Salon Fragrances Guide

Tips: What is a Salon Perfume? Unlike well-known brands like Dior and Chanel, salon perfumes are typically crafted by specialized fragrance brands with a significant history. They often prioritize fragrance over bottle design, using uniform perfume bottles. As they don’t necessarily compete for mass market sales, salon perfumes break free from catering to popular tastes, emphasizing individuality, creativity, and uniqueness. Like Serge Lutens Perfume, Frederic Malle, L’Artisan Parfumeur.

When we mention “salon perfumes,” what comes to mind? Obscure? Niche? High-end? Behind the chic facade of this term hides a multitude of fragrance brands, ranging from formidable giants to artisanal families staying true to their craft. Salon perfumes are not solely about being obscure or niche; those with substance aim for the top, refusing to stay in the shadows.

It’s challenging to define who holds the true top spot, but there’s one brand whose acclaim is undeniable. Although not the most expensive or eccentric, Serge Lutens, affectionately dubbed “Lu Dan” in the fragrance community, embodies all the characteristics of a true salon perfume. If you’ve only encountered Miss Coco or Wind of Love, exploring Serge Lutens for the first time can be a mind-bending experience. The brand’s allure lies in its unapologetic “heavy” scents, rejecting mediocrity as its signature style, with boundless creativity as its motto. In the realm of Serge Lutens, you’ll encounter a myriad of novel sensations, as if stepping into an entirely new world.

“Can perfumes really be made like this?” This was my first impression when introduced to Serge Lutens, as its stark contrast with commercial giants is truly remarkable. While not all Serge Lutens fragrances fall into the “heavy” category, the brand explores various styles, including some refreshing compositions.

In 2017, Serge Lutens underwent a comprehensive product overhaul, resetting fragrance series classifications, modifying perfume bottle designs and packaging. Whether the fragrance formulas were altered remains unclarified by the official statement. Therefore, there’s no need to worry about your beloved scents becoming unavailable. The adjusted series include:

  • Black Label: Regular line, black label.
